Site assessment surveys are performed as a part of Phase II surveys or as pre-drilling and pre-excavation surveys. Techniques used for characterization of a site include ground penetrating radar, terrain conductivity measurements and magnetics. The results define areas of debris, former excavation boundaries, void spaces, and foundations. 

Electromagnetic and magnetic techniques combined with ground penetrating radar can effectively locate an underground storage tank or confirm the removal of a UST.

Combining traditional radio frequency utility locating techniques with geophysical techniques including ground penetrating radar and electromagnetics provides a complete picture of active and abandoned utility lines.
